Muddy and dirty storm drains and gutters along Los Feliz Boulevard are now clean, as a result of a massive cleanup sponsored by LFIA Saturday, December 1. Teams of yellow-and-orange vested LFIA members, community volunteers and LA Conservation Corps teens participated in the half-day beautification effort.
“We multi-handedly cleaned the boulevard’s storm drains from Berendo Street to Griffith Park Boulevard. We generated three full pickup truckloads of trash, silt, gravel and weeds that would have otherwise gone to the Pacific Ocean,” said Chris Laib, LFIA’s beautification co- chair.
“A big thank you goes to CD 4’s Rachel Fox for coordinating the work of LA Conservation Corps, a wonderful group of young people managed by the always hardworking and helpful Manny Murillo,” said Laib.
LFIA president Standolyn Robertson said that the most rewarding part of the cleanup was “when passersby shouted out words of appreciation and thank-you’s.”
A special salute goes to LFIA volunteer and marketing expert Stewart Campbell who publicized the cleanup event.
