Over the years, many Los Felizians have courageously served in the U.S. armed forces around the globe.
To honor these veterans, the Los Feliz Improvement Association’s History Committee is collecting photos of residents who have served in all branches of the service, including the SEALs, WACs and WAVEs. Photo Day will be held Saturday, Nov. 1, from 2-4 p.m. at the Los Feliz Library, 1874 Hillhurst Ave.
This event is being held in conjunction with the library’s special salute to veterans during the month of November.
“Some of my favorite photos in the archive are ones we have Vets.” said Marian Dodge, co-chair of the History Committee that oversees the Photo Archive.
The History Committee asks that members of the military, past or present, or their families bring photos of men and women in uniform to the library. Photos will be scanned on the spot and returned.
Complimentary tea and pastries will be provided to attendees.

Sailors Don Pimental and Fred Minchell relax at Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco. Don and Fred were on a Coast Guard cutter off the Aleutian Islands in World War II. Don slipped on the icy steps in the freezing weather and fell over the railing. Fred grabbed him by his life jacket and pulled Don back on board saving his life. c. 1943
