Fire Station 35

In 2024, LFIA launched a community-wide fund-raising campaign to upgrade the living quarters at Fire Station 35 on Hillhurst. Less than 3% of the LAFD budget goes to improving fire station living areas for firefighters who live at the station for four days at a time, rotating shifts. Donations are earmarked for the replacement of the 75-year-old dormitory ceiling, the purchase of a new commercial grade washer/extractor, and upgraded air conditioning and windows that open.

Lynne T. Jewell Scholarship

In memory of longtime Los Feliz community leader and LFIA board member, the Lynne T. Jewell Scholarship was announced in 2024.  The award will be given to a deserving Marshall High School senior who has been accepted to college. The scholarship is specified for housing, tuition and academic supplies, and is awarded each May.

Tom LaBonge Scholarship

LFIA established the Tom LaBonge Leadership Scholarship at John Marshall High School in 2021 in memory of the long-time Los Angeles City Councilmember, community activist and Marshall High alum. The scholarship is awarded to a college-bound senior with financial need who demonstrates a strong commitment to leadership, community service and academic achievement. The recipient will be announced in the spring.
