UPCOMING CONSTRUCTION ALONG CRYSTAL SPRINGS DRIVE
Rec and Parks has been working with a traffic engineer and CD4 to explore solutions in Griffith Park to curb speeding cars and cut-through traffic from the freeways. Beginning the first week of July, road modifications along Crystal Springs Drive will begin. Electronic message boards have been placed around the main entrances to the park to alert drivers of the upcoming construction. During this time, the roads will remain open, although there may be delays. Cyclists WILL NOT be permitted in these areas during construction for safety reasons and will need to use an alternative route. Road work at this time will only be along Crystal Springs Drive from Los Feliz Blvd to Griffith Park Drive.

CARBON EMISSIONS AND LAWN-CARE EQUIPMENT
In a well-researched article, Carbon Credit reports that, “California enacted a law in 2022 to phase out gas-powered vehicles by 2035, and now it’s planning to do the same for millions of lawn mowers, taking effect in 2024. The state will ban the sale of gas-powered lawn care equipment according to a new law phasing out small, off-road engines.”
As part of the new legislation, starting on July 1, 2024, Californians will no longer be able to purchase gas leaf blowers in our state. As it is, the use of gas leaf blowers are prohibited in residential properties in Los Angeles. But many home owners and landscape companies are either ignorant of the laws or are not clear on the severity of the problem.

PROTECT HISTORIC PRESERVATION ZONES (HPOZ) FROM ED1 PROJECTS
A motion was introduced by Katy Yaroslavsky (CF 24-0490) to enact an Interim Control Ordinance (ICO) to protect Historic Preservation Overlay Zones (HPOZ) from ED1 projects. This ICO is needed to protect HPOZs, which are historically very diverse neighborhoods often in underserved communities with lots of multi-family housing. This motion simply requires projects to go through a discretionary process until the ED1 Ordinance is approved and enacted. Many of you will not be directly affected by this ICO but may want to add your voice to help preserve historic communities such as Hollywood Grove. You can submit comments HERE.
Thank you!
