History:
Eugene Pallette lived at 1837 N. Berendo Street at the time of the 1930 census. Pallette was born in in Winfield, Kansas in 1889. As a teenage athlete, he parlayed his jockey talents into a stage act that involved horseback riding. This lead to stage acting and eventually to Los Angeles where he began working as a stuntman. By 1914, he was being cast as a leading man from romantic parts to villains. After a brief stint serving in World War I, Pallette, heavier and more robust, was relegated to supporting roles. He continued through the silent era in character parts and was especially effective in comedies. He blossomed with the talkies as he had a distinctive throaty voice which made him one of the highest paid character actors of the times. His output was prolific and he became increasingly more utilized in direct relation to his weight gain. By the time of his retirement in 1946, he had appeared in 244 productions. He passed away in Los Angeles in 1954.

1940 Census:
1837 Berendo Street (Rents for $40): 1) John H. Hartzell, head of household; white married male 52 years of age; born in Pennsylvania; mechanic, metal factory; earns $1,600. 2) Mae H. Hartzell, wife; white married female 53 years of age; born in Wisconsin; proprietor, beauty shop.
