North Vermont Avenue between Hollywood Boulevard and Franklin Avenue is the historic business district, now designated the Los Feliz Village. The earliest photograph of the neighborhood from 1903 (above) shows a street lined with pepper trees and a single commercial building at the northeast corner of Vermont Avenue with Prospect Avenue, the “Hoegee Block.” This structure no longer remains, but many other historic buildings constructed in later decades (1922-1940) still hold businesses and give the district its distinct character. The survey only includes these historic edifices which, with a few exceptions, are not residential.
