5217 was the home of actress Gertrude Astor at the time of the 1930 United States census. Born in Ohio in 1887, Astor became one of the most important female character actresses of all time, appearing in nearly 300 film productions between 1915 and 1966. Tall and lanky, she usually appeared in comic roles with major comedic stars like Laurel and Hardy, the Our Gang team, and in particular, Charley Chase. Her advanced horseback riding talents also brought her work as a stunt-woman. Her deep voice allowed her to transition from silent film into sound with ease. Her career spanned an astonishing 50 years by the time of her death in 1977 on her 90th birthday.
5217 was also the home of Lila Leslie (1 January 1890 – 8 September 1940), a British actress of the silent era. She appeared in 71 films between 1913 and 1933. (Source: Wikipedia; 1930 United States census).
