History:
Antonio Moreno (1886-1967), silent movie idol, original owner.
Born in Spain in 1887, Moreno (original name: Antonio Garride Monteagudo) immigrated to the United States when 14 years old. Moving to California in 1912, he began acting in films in 1915. By 1920, he had become one of the biggest starts at Vitagraph Studios, and was later one of Jesse Lasky’s most successful players. He starred opposite major stars like Greta Garbo and Clara Bow.
Moreno married heiress Daisy Canfield Danziger in 1923, a marriage that ended tragically with her death in an automobile accident 10 years later. After talkies began, he starred in Spanish language versions of Hollywood hit films, later became busy as a character actor, and didn’t retire from films until the late 1950s. He had appeared in 91 productions. He died in 1967. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
