Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #843 (declared 5/19/2006)
History:
This site began as a service station in 1923, and then by 1930 had became a drive-in restaurant, “Willard’s Car Café.” During the 1940s, it was the Los Feliz Brown Derby restaurant. A 1940 photo shows the Brown Derby with original street lights. (Source: Real estate brochure). The site of the Los Feliz Brown Derby was declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #843 (declared 5/19/2006).
During the 1950s, the site became Michael’s Restaurant, a local landmark until 1993 when “Louise’s Restaurant” and “The Derby Nightclub” took over the Michael’s space. Today the spaces have been taken over by Chase Bank, and The Mess Hall restaurant.
