George Hjelte served as a 1941 director of LFIA. In city government, he worked his way up to General Manager of the Los Angeles Recreation & Parks Department, writing “Footprints in the Park” about his experiences. His daughter, Dorothy Meyer, raised in the Dundee Drive home, raised her family there. She was President of the LFIA in the 1980s, as she also served the Culver City Rec & Parks Dept. A member of the Paller family who built the house recalls that the house was given up to the lender during the Depression. (Sources: LFIA records, Nora Paller, 1994) George C. Hjelte was an LFIA Director in 1941 and later from 1966 until 1974, and served as First Vice-President from 1972 to 1974. In the 1930s, he was the Los Angeles Superintendent of Recreation and Playgrounds, and later the General Manager of the Department of Recreation and Parks in the 1940s and 1950s.
