History:

Salem Bader, the youngest member of the British Intelligence Service, author and world traveler, was described as “The most vicious spy on the Turkish front” in World War I. Bader wrote “Brothers Under the Skin” among other best sellers.

Bader was brought into the British Intelligence Service at the age of 13 due to his knowledge of the desert regions around the Holy Land and his ability to communicate in the dialects of its tribes. He saved 30,000 British lives in 1915 when he warned the British Expeditionary Forces that the city of Gaza was filled with thousands of Turks concealed behind it walls, waiting to ambush the British. He personally guided them through the desert. Later that year, he was caught by the Turks and ordered shot, but he was rescued by Lawrence of Arabia’s Arabs who stormed the jail and rescued the 16-year old boy.

Bader settled in Los Angeles in 1925 and campaigned against the rising Nazi threat to the Middle East after World War II began. (Lodi News-Sentinel, October 21, 1941).
