History:
2450 Glendower was the home of Julia Faye, a prominent film star in the silent era. Faye (born Julia Faye Covell) was born in 1898 in Virginia. She began in film in 1915, and soon after Cecil B. DeMille promoted her in most of his epic films during the 1920s while she became his mistress. She appeared in his films into the 1930s until their relationship dissolved. But DeMille continued to support her with small parts in his films and kept her on the Paramount payroll well into the 1940s and 1950s. Her last film was DeMille’s “The Buccaneer” (1958), and she had appeared in nearly 100 films by then. Later, DeMille built her new house at 2338 Observatory Avenue where she lived in 1930. John Robertson “Big John” Richards (February 24, 1875 –October 28, 1947) was an American football player, coach, educator, and public administrator. He served as the head coach at Colorado College (1905–1909), the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1911, 1917, 1919–1922), and Ohio State University (1912), compiling a career college football record of 58–21–8. After retiring from coaching, Richards was a director of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Water District, a part of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, from 1929 to 1947. (Wikipedia)
