“Fuller House”.
Harry Hayden Whiteley, architect.
History: Harrison and Mary Fuller migrated from Iowa to California in 1881, settling in what would become Azusa. They had several children. Three of the sons (Harles H, Oretis B, and Ernest P.) became ranchers, owning land all over Southern California.
Charles H. had one son, Olive Ransome (“O.R”). O. R. Fuller was born in Kansas in 1880 and came to Southern California in 1898. By 1918, O.R. was managing a truck dealership. He also got into the bus business, starting with a single route and expanding it into “Motor Trans-it,” with service from LA to Bakersfield, San Diego and San Bernardino. In 1929, he sold the bus line to Greyhound, and had moved from selling trucks to fancy cars (Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg) in a showroom on “Automobile Alley” (Figueroa Street south of Downtown).
The house at 2400 Inverness was custom designed for O.R. and his family by architect Harry Hayden Whiteley in 1929. The Fullers only lived there a short time; the effects of the Great Depression caused them to move out in late 1932 or early 1933. They moved to their vacation home on their Corona ranch, eventually making it into a famous “Guest Ranch” visited by movie stars and other luminaries. (Source: Charles P. Hobbs, transportation historian; letter to LFIA dated March 15, 2008).
Prominent film editor, Joseph Fineman, lived here in 1985. (Source: www.movielanddirectory.com)
Franklyn Warner, the owner of Franklyn M. Warner Productions (originally called Fine Arts Pictures), a low-budget production company (not related to the Warner Brothers) lived here in 1940. (Internet Movie Database)
