About
History:
Gregory Ain and James H. Garrott, architects
Gregory Ain and James H. Garrott designed this building for their architectural offices. Garrott lived nearby on Micheltorena Street in Silver Lake.
In 2022, the office was occupied by (Antony) Unruh (Trish) Boyer Architects (The Silver Lake News).
In 1946, Garrott, who studied architecture at USC, was the second African-American admitted to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Los Angeles, following Paul R. Williams. His application was sponsored by Williams and Ain. Garrott has been described as a “pivotal Black avant-garde modernist of the 1940s.” (Source: Los Angeles Conservancy)
