History:
Home of Harry Solloway (born 1899), concert violinist. (Source: Who’s Who in Los Angeles, 1942-43.)
This Spanish Revival house was the home of famed concert violinist Harry Solloway beginning in the 1930s. Born in Latvia, Solloway was renown in Europe before emigrating to the United States in the late 1920s. Recruited by the movie studios, he was a frequent soloist on recordings of the period, and was Concert Master and Conductor for the Paramount Orchestra. He is considered one of the great musicians of his era, and was the owner of a 1712 Stradivarius violin that was stolen from this Laughlin Park home in 1953. The instrument has never been recovered.
