About
History:
1717 N. Normandie Avenue was the home of actor Robert Kortman at the time of the 1930 US census. Kortman was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1887. He said that he had been in the United States Cavalry which taught him his ability on horseback. As a result, he was featured in the early westerns beginning in 1915, especially tales associated with William S. Hart. He was a prolific character actor during the entire silent era, and transitioned successfully into sound, again in westerns notably as villains in several successfully serials. By the time of his retirement from film early in the 1950s, he had been featured in 274 movies. He passed away in 1967 in Long Beach, California.
