Residence of Doyce Blackman Nunis, Jr., Ph.D. Historian-Author-Educator for 30 years. Born May 30, 1924 in Cedartown, GA, son of Doyce B., Sr. and Winnie Ethyl (Morris) Nunis. Educated with a B.A. from UCLA in 1947; MS (Education) from USC in 1950; M. Education 1942 from USC, Ph.D. (History) in 1958 from USC. Career: Teacher, California public schools 1948- 51; graduate fellowship at USC 1951-53; lecturer, Department of American Civilization and Institutions USC 1953-56; Instructor in History, El Camino College 1956-59; faculty and library staffs (Assoc. Prof. of Education, head, Office of Oral History) UCLA 1959. Author of the following books: “Andrew Sublett, Rocky Mountain Prince, (1808-53)” published California 1960; “Josiah Belden, 1841 California Overland Pioneer: His Memoir and Early letters,” published Georgetown CA 1962; “The California Diary of Faxon Dean Atherton (1836-39),” published San Francisco 1964; “The Gold Rush Letters of Jasper Smith Hills,” published San Francisco 1964.

Contributed 27 articles to scholarly historical magazines. Awards: Del Amo Foundation grant for research abroad, 1956; Henry E. Huntington library Grant-in-aid, 1960; John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship, 1963-65. member of the California Quarterly, Phi Alpha Theta, Pi Sigma Alpha, Zamorano Club, various historic associations and organizations.
