History:

John R. Girling, who lived here in 1940, was associated with the well known Los Angeles law firm of O’Melveny, Tuller & Myers. He enjoyed an enviable reputation as one of the outstanding representatives of the legal profession on the Pacific coast.

Girling was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, July 23, 1891 and studied at Dartmouth College of Hanover, New Hampshire. His professional training was received in the law department of the University of Colorado at Boulder, from which he was graduated with the LL.B. degree in 1914. The same year he was admitted to the Colorado bar at Colorado Springs, and in 1923, at Los Angeles, he was admitted to practice in California. He formerly served as assistant district attorney of the fourth judicial district in the state of Colorado. While associated with O’Melveny, Tuller & Myers of Los Angeles, the largest law firm on the Pacific coast, he was in charge of all insurance matters for the firm and was widely recognized as a lawyer of unusual ability. He was a keen observer, possessed an analytical mind and was known for a most retentive memory.
