Photo E-1:  1905 - "Holmby House" estate of Arthur Letts, founder of the Broadway Department Store chain, one of the showplaces of Hollywood with its extensive formal gardens.  The mansion, located on today's Kenmore Avenue just north of Franklin Avenue, was razed in 1929 to make room for subdivisions.
