on Griffith Park’s devastating 1933 fire

unnamed (5)

“…by early fall, hot dry winds began to blow into Los Angeles
from the desert. Already parched from months without rain,
the chaparral in Griffith Park became dry as tinder.”

The weather, compounded by day laborers devoid of
fire-fighting experience, egged on by foremen
lacking knowledge of the deep, park canyons…
it all came together to create a perfect storm on Oct. 3, 1933.
